Barnes Avenue Massacre

On Wednesday, October 05,2005 at around 3:00am gunmen firebombed a house on Barnes Avenue in Maxfield Avenue, South West St. Andrew. Four persons representing three generations from one family were burnt to death as their killers stood guard outside their home preventing their escape.
Gerald Brown, 60 his wife Dorcas Brown 50, their daughter Janice Brown 25 and their granddaughter Sasha-Kay Brown 10 all perished in the blaze. Sasha- Kay had climbed up the grill on the veranda crying out the names of the other residents on Barnes Avenue pleading for help. The neighbors heard her cries however the masked gunmen prevented them from assisting by firing shots at them.

Follow up:

Reports are that some residents tried to solicit help from soldiers who were stationed at the Whitfield Town All-Age School near by. The soldiers did not assist as they said there was no police on the scene at the time.
The ongoing gang feud between men from Barnes Avenue and Ramsay Road is believed to be at the root of the Wednesday morning massacre. Since August there have been six murders in the Maxfield Avenue Area. The police believe the fire bombing of the Browns resident is a reprisal to the shooting of a man who is now hospitalized and under police guard.
Another house opposite the Browns on Barnes Avenue was also fire bombed yesterday however the residents were able to put out the fire before it spread. Residents of the volatile Maxfield area are now fleeing the area in fear for their lives. They believe the gunmen will stop at nothing to exact their revenge. The Brown family says it all,two elderly persons, a young woman and a child. Even the family dog was shot.
The Brown’s neighbors say Sasha-Kay could be heard screaming, begging them to come and help her until her voice gradually faded in the blaze. I’m sure many of them will not be able to forget that for a long, long time to come. The horror stories in our beloved Jamaica continue to get more gruesome with each new day.

Sister Mary Margaret

SISTER MARGARET MARY, WHO WORKS FOR A LOCAL HOME HEALTH AGENCY WAS OUT MAKING HER ROUNDS WHEN SHE RAN OUT OF GAS.

AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT A GAS STATION WAS JUST A BLOCK AWAY.

SHE WALKED TO THE STATION TO BORROW A CAN OF GAS TO START & THEN DRIVE TO THE STATION FOR A FILL UP.

THE ATTENDANT REGRETFULLY TOLD HER THE ONLY GAS CAN HE OWNED HAD BEEN LOANED OUT BUT IF SHE WOULD WAIT, IT WAS SURE TO BE BACK SHORTLY.

SINCE THE NUN ! WAS ON THE WAY TO SEE A PATIENT SHE DECIDED NOT TO WAIT & SHE WALKED BACK TO THE CAR. AFTER LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO FILL WITH GAS, SHE SPOTTED A BEDPAN SHE WAS TAKING TO THE PATIENT.

ALWAYS RESOURCEFUL, SHE CARRIED IT TO THE STATION & FILLED IT WITH GASOLINE, & CARRIED IT TO HER CAR.

AS SHE WAS POURING THE GAS INTO THE TANK, TWO MEN WERE WATCHING FROM ACROSS THE STREET. ONE OF THEM TURNED TO THE OTHER & SAID, "IF IT STARTS, I'M TURNING CATHOLIC".
