For a long time now I have been struggling with my weight. It usually becomes critical when I need to fit into that particular little outfit for that most important date. I will notice a few extra bulges or a zipper unable to meet (or did the outfit shrink). That’s when I become determined to do something about it. So I decide to go on a diet. After a couple of days (when I’m absolutely starving) I give up and simple go out and get a new outfit. The need to lose weight forgotten, until of course, the next grand occasion.
Follow up:
It’s amazing how hungry you can get when you are trying to diet. Normally you can go an entire day without the thought of food especially if you are very busy. Yes you do stop and eat at the appropriate times however it’s more out of habit than need. The minute however that you consciously decide to regulate your eating habits the thought of food never leaves your mind.
Recently I have joined an exercise class. I try to make it three times a week but that doesn’t always happen. What I have found extremely helpful however is the eating tips that the instructor shared with us.
For the first week we had to keep an account of every thing we consumed and at what time (no cheating). At the end of that time we were all amazed at how horrible our eating habits were. For me the constant snacking was my undoing.
Then we tried regulating the times we ate and the amounts. We were allowed to eat every three to four hours but reduced amounts. That worked beautifully for me; in fact it seemed as if I was always eating (my favorite pastime).
The third step was to regulate what we ate. We discussed the different food groups which you all know, the fats, the carbs, the proteins, etc. and were allowed to form our own mix. Of course there are some things that were absolute ‘no, no’ such as sodas and certain sweets.
Two things to remember, try to always start the day with breakfast (this wakes up the worms and get them going) and eat every three to four hours (this keeps the worms going throughout the day). The school of thought here is that your metabolism will be constantly working, breaking down the food leaving no time for fat to be stored. Once the body is deprived of food for any length of time it begins to store fat. (Or something like that).
So now a typical day for me would consist of a cup of coffee and a sandwich or just crackers for breakfast at around 7:30am (I’m still struggling here as I’m not a breakfast person). At 10:30 I’ll eat some crackers and tuna or cheese and a glass of juice. At 1:30pm I eat a full lunch for example meat, rice, vegetable. I now eat a small lunch as I’m still OK from my 10:30 snack. At 4:30pm I eat a fruit. Then at 7:30pm I eat a light dinner mostly vegetables.
It’s been three months now. I have only lost five pounds but I’m fitting much better into some of my ‘little outfits’. I also feel much better within myself and can now mount a flight a stairs without pain. Now I find myself wanting less to eat at each sitting. I seem to feel fully satisfied much quicker.
I’m no expert but I do know that between the exercises and the constant eating I’m doing much better. In the past even if I took up exercising I’ve tried to diet with it. That didn’t work. But I would never believe that to eat more often would be better.
Nuff Love
